About Zest
Zest is the manifestation of a vision. In the summer of 2007 partners Joe DiGiovanni and Mike Schreiber were discussing the future and the subject of opening a restaurant came up. Since Joe had owned the very successful joe d’s wine bar café and patio for 19 years and had sold it about two years prior, his response was less than enthusiastic. However when Mike, who enjoyed a successful career in marketing for over 35 years, asked Joe if he had ever envisioned his ‘dream’ restaurant, Joe's unexpected reply was, “I’ve always wanted a place that was the talk of the town.” And thus the seed was planted.
Zest opened in November of 2008 and the goal since then has been focused on delivering that vision of being ‘the talk of the town’. To do that it would only be possible if four critical components come to fruition in nothing but the first order.
Number one is the food. The new menu is a combination of our original upscale comfort food concept created by Eric Eckard, our original Chef and now Kitchen Manager, along with the culinary craft of our new Executive Chef Linda Duerr. She has brought a fresh new perspective and a unique ability to combine ingredients and flavors that spark the imagination as well as the taste buds. Linda's career started in Boston then on to New York and finally landing in Kansas City as the Exec Chef at Lidias. After being recruited to oversee the culinary direction of Frondizi's and JJ's we were able to lure her to Zest.
The second component is the service. Knowing that great service is in the eye of the guest, every effort will be made to deliver impeccable service.
Third is the atmosphere. One of the most accomplished firms in the Midwest, 360 Architecture was chosen to design the space and décor. It’s all done in warm earth tones with a style to make you feel at home. There’s a 14’ high wine gallery, two fireplaces, ample private dining and large bar area to relax and dine.
And the final component is possibly the most critical, value. In today’s economy everyone is looking for good value. At Zest, you’ll find a great meal in a fun, comfortable environment without breaking the bank.
